“In its six year history, Battle on the Border has grown to showcase the Tweed and the far North Coast as a major event for the local community to enjoy,” Mr Barilaro said.

“Over the next two years, Battle on the Border is expected to inject $2 million in overnight visitor expenditure into the local and NSW economy.

“The four-day cycling festival attracts cyclists of all ages and skills and features the competitive Tour de Battle, which is included as a stage of Cycling Australia’s National Road Series.

“The Tour de Battle competitive cycling tour is a multi-stage, multi-division race held over the four days of Battle on the Border, which sees cyclists take on the challenging hills and valleys in the spectacular setting of Northern NSW,” Mr Barilaro said.

Mr Provest said the local beaches and relaxed lifestyle continue to show how the Tweed is a wonderful holiday destination and the perfect place to explore, by peddle power or on foot.

“The event is expected to attract a large number of competitors, so I encourage all Battle on the Border participants and their supporters to discover this beautiful region of NSW,” Mr Provest said.

“The Gran Fondo social rides are also a fun way to explore the spectacular Tweed Coast with cyclists able to participate in rides over three distances from 60km to 180km,” he said.

Battle on the Border will be held from 28-31 May 2015. For more information visit visitnsw.com/events/battle-on-the-border-cycling-festival
