Statistics and research to help NSW visitor economy businesses strengthen their marketing and business decisions.

About

NSW is the leading visitor economy in Australia in terms of domestic and international visitation and total value. It has the largest number of visitor economy-related businesses and supports the most sector-wide jobs.

The performance of the NSW visitor economy is measured in terms of growth in visitor expenditure, visitor satisfaction, economic contribution and job creation.

Note: Tourism Research Australia's (TRA) Domestic Tourism Statistics (DoTS) has replaced the National Visitor Survey (NVS) from the March quarter 2025.

NVS results in the previous reports and DoTS results are not statistically comparable to each other due to changes in methodologies. Domestic visitation results prior to 2025 are backcast and adjusted to account for differences in methodology between the National Visitor Survey (NVS) and the new Domestic Tourism Statistics (DoTS) program which came into effect in January 2025. Caution should be used when interpreting comparisons made to the backcast data.

International visitation data continues to be sourced from TRA’s International Visitor Survey and remains unchanged.
