The NSW Government has committed a record $21.6 million to the Regional Visitor Economy Fund (RVEF) over three years, to help support local economies across Regional NSW and contribute to the goal of doubling overnight visitor expenditure to the State by 2020.
‘Regional tourism is a vital contributor the State’s economy. Last year Regional NSW received 50.4 million international and domestic overnight and day trip visitors, spending $13.3 billion,’ Mr Barilaro said.
‘The NSW Government is growing the visitor economy and initiatives like the RVEF support this development and are important in encouraging economic growth in our regional communities.
‘Tourism Snowy Mountains has been successful in its two applications to receive funding from the RVEF to encourage people to visit the area year-round.
‘Of the total funding, $200,000 will support promotion of the 2015 and 2016 ski seasons and reinforce the Snowy Mountains as Australia’s premier ski destination.
‘An additional $100,000 will go towards enhancing the current spring, summer and autumn marketing campaigns and aims to further stimulate accommodation bookings in the Snowy Mountains region, using a variety of improved and new marketing activities.’
Four Local Government Areas will feature in the forthcoming marketing campaigns, which aim to drive visitation from domestic interstate travellers – Tumut Shire, Tumbarumba Shire, Cooma Shire and Snowy River Shire.
