“A record breaking Super Rugby Final crowd of 61,283 were present at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium to witness the Waratahs claim victory over the Crusaders and the harbour has sparkled again in celebration of this win for NSW,” Mr Stoner said.
“Not only was this match attended by fans from across the State, Australia, New Zealand and beyond but it is likely to set a new global broadcast record in the 19 year history of the tournament.
“As an expression of our State’s support of the Waratahs first Super Rugby finals campaign since 2008, parts of the Sydney CBD have been dressed with NSW Waratahs flags.
“Post-match coverage included the dazzling fireworks celebrations in the sky over Sydney icons, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, showcasing our Harbour City to the world.
“The fireworks were seen by Rugby fans on Super Rugby broadcasters throughout the world, including in New Zealand, South Africa, France, Italy, UK, Ireland and Japan.
“ANZ Stadium is a world class sporting facility and fantastic asset for NSW, hosting a phenomenal number of major sporting events in Sydney for over a decade.”
Mr Stoner said on the back of celebrating the NSW Waratahs Championship win, the sporting action is certainly not about to stop in NSW.
“This month alone we will welcome Italian football giants Juventus, exclusively to Sydney, for their friendly clash with the Foxtel A-League All Stars, the Wallabies will challenge the All Blacks for a trophy that has eluded them for 11 years – the Bledisloe Cup and the Bingham Cup will be held for the first time in the Southern Hemisphere with over 25 rugby union teams taking part,” he said.
