NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Major Events Troy Grant, Minister for Regional Tourism John Barilaro and Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today announced the NSW Government would continue supporting the event.

Held annually at Tamworth’s Australian Equine Livestock and Events Centre (AELEC), the NCHA Futurity includes ‘cutting’ events in pro and non-pro classes in which riders separate a single animal away from a cattle herd, as well as the Bull Ride & Rodeo and renowned NCHA Select Horse Sale.

“The NCHA Futurity attracts riders from across Australia and overseas who come to compete for one of the richest prize purses on offer in the sport anywhere in the world,” Mr Grant said.

“Through our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, we have continued our partnership with the NCHA and Tamworth Regional Council.

“The NCHA Futurity delivers significant benefits to the Tamworth region and the State, attracting visitors who come to compete in and watch the event and generating strong international media coverage, particularly in the US where the sport of cutting enjoys enormous popularity.”

Mr Barilaro said the NSW Government’s funding would help ensure the popularity and profile of the NCHA Futurity continued to grow.

“The Futurity is an added drawcard for visitors to Tamworth, an already well-recognised Regional NSW destination,” Mr Barilaro said.

“Tamworth has firmly established its reputation as the country music capital of Australia and is home to a year-round calendar of sporting and entertainment events, including the NCHA Futurity.”

Mr Anderson said the NCHA Futurity was the premier event on the Australian cutting circuit and cemented Tamworth’s position as a centre of equine and livestock excellence.

“The NCHA Select Horse Sale generates annual sales of around $1 million and attracts local, national and international buyers. It’s easy to see why this event is an important one for Tamworth and why we are keen to see it grow well into the future,” Mr Anderson said.
