Local Government Area (LGA) Profiles

2 March 2012

Visitor profiles and accommodations reports for Local Government Areas across regional NSW are available below. The profiles are a useful resource for marketing and planning at the local destination level.

Visitor profiles

These profiles show the number of visitors to an LGA, broken down by the three key source markets of domestic day-trips, domestic overnight visitors and international visitors. Each source market is measured in terms of the number of visitors, visitor nights and expenditure.

Information is available on the following visitor characteristics:

  • Purpose of trip
  • Origin of visitor
  • Accommodation used
  • Travel party type

Accommodation profiles

The LGA Accommodation profiles below as at June 2016 is the data on accommodation supply, demand and revenue factors such as the number of establishments, number of rooms, occupancy rates and average room rates. The profiles were sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Survey of Tourist Accommodation. The profiles included local area data for hotels/motels/serviced apartments with 15 or more rooms.

LGA Accommodation profile reports are available only for those LGAs that provided completed information in the ABS Survey of Tourist Accommodation 2015-2016.

The ABS revised the 2015-16 data, with the removal of 40 duplicates establishments in Australia. These changes are reflected in Regional and Total NSW level but not at SA2 level to preserve confidentiality of individual record information. The ABS 2015-16 tourist accommodation data should not be compared with the previously published 2014-15 data

Past notes:

  1. From March quarter 2012, the ABS stopped reporting accommodation data at the Local Government Area level and commenced reporting at the Statistical Area (SA) level 2. This report was produced by Destination NSW by amalgamating SA2 accommodation data for selected LGAs based on the latest ABS SA Level 2 2011 to LGA 2014 correspondence file.
  2. From June 2010, ABS ceased collecting information on hotels with less than 15 rooms, caravan parks, holiday homes/units and visitor hostels.
