In 2022, Destination NSW established the Greater Sydney Local Government Engagement Program to foster collaboration among the region's 33 councils and enable alignment of activities to collectively grow the NSW visitor economy.
The program provides council staff involved in tourism, economic development, events, community activation and marketing with a central point of contact at Destination NSW.
There are quarterly working group meetings to provide a platform for councils to share updates, insights and discuss challenges and opportunities. At these meetings, Destination NSW shares the latest quarterly data and visitor economy news.
There are two working groups:
- Greater Sydney East with 20 councils
- Greater Sydney West with 13 councils.
Greater Sydney incorporates the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Penrith and Wollondilly Local Government Areas.
In regional NSW, there are seven Destination Networks, which include the Newcastle, Central Coast and Wollongong Local Government Areas. Learn more here.
