Mr Yang will be based in Chengdu and brings over seven years’ business development experience to the role.
“With China now the largest contributor of visitor nights and expenditure to NSW, we are ensuring we continue to develop the opportunities to increase visitation. In the year to June 2013 visitors from mainland China provided a $1.3 billion boost to our State’s economy,” Ms Chipchase said.
“The expansion follows the strategy outlined in the NSW China Tourism Strategy 2012-20 to increase marketing activity into more markets in China, following recommendations in the Visitor Economy Taskforce Report.”
Destination NSW, with offices also in Shanghai, supports the Sydney Official Guide in Chinese and provides a Chinese version of its consumer website sydney.com (http://cn.sydney.com). Sydney and NSW are regularly promoted via weibo, through China-based media and through made for China content including China blogger content.
Simonne Shepherd, General Manager, Industry Partnerships and Government Policy, Destination NSW said “Visitors from China are attracted to our State not only for the magnificent natural landscapes but also because there is so much to see and do in NSW. They come for our amazing food and dining experiences, luxury shopping and of course major events including Vivid Sydney, which saw 7,200 travel packages bought by visitors from China this year. Growing our representation in China will see great opportunities for trade partnerships and promotions that will ensure NSW is high on the travel wish list.”
