The Destination NSW Board met this week in Broken Hill, one of several board meetings held in regional NSW each year to facilitate engagement with local visitor economy stakeholders.
Broken Hill is Australia's first heritage-listed town and is famed for its fascinating history, rich culture and stunning outback landscapes.
The two-day visit was an opportunity for the Board and the Destination NSW executive leadership team to learn more about the NSW Country and Outback region, which is a key contributor to the growth of the NSW visitor economy, delivering $6.3 million of domestic visitor spend into the region every day.
The Board meeting preceded the 2024 Mundi Mundi Bash, which is being held from 15-17 August.
More than 14,000 festivalgoers have flocked to Broken Hill for the music festival, with record attendance at the sold-out event.
Destination NSW has proudly supported Mundi Mundi Bash from its inception in 2022 to becoming the biggest music and camping festival hosted in Outback NSW and a bucket list experience on the NSW events calendar.
Major events such as Mundi Mundi Bash play a vital role in our regional centres, attracting fans, performers and event staff who stay in hotels, visit attractions and spend locally. This year, Mundi Mundi Bash is estimated to deliver more than $6 million of visitor expenditure into the local visitor economy.
While in Broken Hill, Destination NSW Chairman Sally Loane, CEO Steve Cox, the Board and executive leadership team met with local visitor economy stakeholders and Destination Country and Outback NSW during an event held at The Broken Hill Pub, a historic local landmark established in the late 19th century.
They also enjoyed a city tour with Silver City Tours and visited local attractions including Bells Milk Bar, Pro Hart Gallery, the Palace Hotel, the Line of Lode Miner’s Memorial, the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, Outback Astronomy and the Living Desert and Sculptures open-air gallery.
