Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres announced the Series will see events held at Maroubra, Cabarita, Avoca and Boomerang Beaches with the event starting in early 2016.
“I am pleased this fantastic new series has been secured for the State by the NSW Government, in partnership with Surfing NSW,” Mr Ayres said.
“The Pro Surf series is expected to contribute almost $4 million to the NSW economy over the next three years.
“It‘s a great addition to our summer calendar, which also includes Surfest at Newcastle and the final of the Boardriders Battle at Cronulla Beach.”
Each stage will be an official World Surf League Qualifying Series event, with a world class line-up of surfers competing for points towards their series rankings.
Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch launched the NSW Pro Surf Series at Avoca Beach alongside World Surf League surfer Glen Hall.
“The NSW Pro Surf Series is a fantastic initiative, and I can’t wait to see some of the world’s top surfers come to Avoca Beach in 2016 to compete,” Mr Crouch said.
“It will also provide a great boost to our local visitor economy, and show the world the beautiful beaches we have here on the Central Coast.”
The 2016 Series will begin at Maroubra Beach on 15-17 January, before moving to Cabarita Beach on 1-3 February, Avoca Beach on 9-11 February and Boomerang Beach on 1-3 March.
