New data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows short-term visitor arrivals to Australia have surged past pre-pandemic levels.

A total of 831,170 short-term visitor arrivals were recorded in November 2025, an increase of 135,810 compared to November 2024 (up 19.5 per cent year-on-year).

The number of trips was also 1.9 per cent higher than the pre-COVID-19 level in November 2019.

The three leading source countries where visitors came from were:

  • New Zealand (127,820 trips)
  • United Kingdom (80,090)
  • China (74,500).

The highest number of visitor arrivals for short-term trips was observed for NSW, which also recorded the highest year-on-year growth (up 25 per cent compared to November 2024).

The number of short-term visitor arrivals to NSW in November 2025 was 325,340, compared to 298,050 in November 2019.

The top three source markets for NSW were:

  • New Zealand (41,570)
  • United States (35,310)
  • China (32,800)

New Zealand arrivals surged past November 2019 levels (37,680). Other international markets that surpassed 2019 levels included South Korea (30,720 compared to 16,260 in November 2019) the United Kingdom (27,260, compared to 26,330 in November 2019),Singapore (11,480, compared to 10,980 in November 2019) and India (13,770, compared to 11,290 in November 2019).
