Minister Upton was joined by SCG Curator Tom Parker, MLB field expert Murray Cook and Team Australia players to unveil the field to the world this morning.
“It is a pleasure to unveil the transformation of the historic Sydney Cricket Ground into the Sydney Baseball Ground,” Ms Upton said.
“From Thursday, we will see the game Babe Ruth made famous played at the ground Don Bradman made his own.
“After inspecting the initial works just over two weeks ago, it is quite extraordinary to see the final transformation into a professional Major League Baseball field. It is a real credit to the groundsmen who have worked tirelessly to deliver it.
“With the field now complete, Sydney is truly ready to welcome the LA Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks to our Harbour City tomorrow for the Opening Series of Major League Baseball and Team Australia Challenge this week.”
Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris, said: “The games were secured exclusively by the NSW Government in partnership with Moore Sports and the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust.
“They will deliver a direct visitor impact of more than $13 million for the local economy and an additional 10,000 visitors from interstate and overseas.
“I encourage all sporting fans in NSW and across Australia to join in the celebrations this week as Sydney welcomes the world for this great sporting spectacle and a once in a lifetime experience.”
