The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS has announced the launch of its new TCS Sydney Marathon Track Night, a four-event free community running initiative in partnership with NSW Athletics, designed to strengthen confidence, access and feelings of safety in running across Sydney.
The series opened with a women’s only Track Night on Wednesday, 18 March at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre, creating a dedicated space for women to train, connect and build confidence in a supportive environment.
New research commissioned by the NSW Government Safer Cities program has shown that safety plays a significant role in shaping how women and girls engage with running. The survey of more than 5000 runners revealed that 95 per cent of women say their sense of safety influences their running habits.
The Track Night Series, funded through the Safer Cities program, has been designed as a practical response to those insights, creating safe and structured running spaces that help build confidence and encourage participation.
While the opening event places women front and centre, the full Track Night Series will continue to raise awareness of how feelings of safety impact women and gender diverse runners, with subsequent events welcoming participants of all genders.
The next TCS Sydney Marathon Track Night dates are:
- May 15 – ES Marks Athletics Field – 6pm
- July 17 – ES Marks Athletics Field – 6pm
- November 20 – Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre – 6pm
Registrations for the next three events will open closer to the date.
TCS Sydney Marathon Race Director Wayne Larden said the initiative reflects a long-term commitment to strengthening participation and confidence in the sport.
“We know that feeling safe and supported is fundamental to female participation,” Larden said.
“By placing women at the centre of our opening TCS Sydney Marathon Track Night and embedding safety considerations across the series, we’re taking practical steps to help more women feel confident running in the community.”
Athletics NSW CEO Christian Renford said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to creating safer environments for women in the sport.
“We’re proud to support the TCS Sydney Marathon in delivering an initiative that places women first and contributes meaningfully to improving safety standards and expectations across the running community,” Renford said.
Track Nights is supported by the NSW Government through the Run My Way program, a partnership between the NSW Office of Sport and Transport for NSW, which is funded through the Safer Cities program.
The TCS Sydney Marathon is supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW. The event is owned by Australian Athletics and managed by Pont3.
