At a ceremony held last week, Mr Jones was recognised for his achievements across a number of major events, which include the 2000 Sydney Olympic Ceremonies, 2006 Asian Games Ceremonies, 2010 Winter Olympics Ceremonies and the Opening of Shanghai 2010 World Expo and Vivid Sydney, the largest festival of light, music and ideas in the Southern Hemisphere.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer, Sandra Chipchase, said that this award is deserved recognition for Mr Jones, who has made an extraordinary contribution to the creative industries both here in NSW and abroad.

‘Ignatius Jones’ story is one of hard work, creativity and inspiration, and I congratulate him for this and his many other accomplishments during his stellar career. This award is well deserved after decades of achievement across a variety of areas,’ Ms Chipchase said.

‘I am especially pleased given the major role Ignatius has played in the development of Vivid Sydney, which is owned and managed by Destination NSW. His creative vision has contributed enormously to Vivid Sydney being recognised as a world-renowned free public exhibition of outdoor lighting sculptures and installations, cutting-edge contemporary music, a celebration of innovation and ideas and the spectacular illumination of Sydney’s iconic architecture.

‘We are very proud to have him as part of our team and look forward to his expertise and vision in staging the largest festival of light, music and ideas again in 2015,’ she said.

Mr Jones also had a long and distinguished career in the entertainment industry, starting with the influential ‘shock-rock’ band ‘Jimmy and the Boys’ in the mid-70s.

He was born in Malate, Manila in 1957 and migrated to Australia with his family in 1963. Mr Jones is a proud member of the Spanish-Filipino Trápaga clan.
