Destination NSW has partnered with research agency FiftyFive5 to develop experience-focused research into the domestic market.

It provides insight into the experiences that appeal to Australian visitors in NSW.

The NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2035 identifies nature-based experiences as a key strength for the state, attracting high-value travellers and driving repeat visitation.

Anchored by Sydney’s iconic harbour and beaches, NSW has more than 870 national parks and marine reserves, over 2000km of coastline and an intricate network of rivers and lakes.

These natural wonders support regional businesses and economies and strengthen NSW’s position as a leader in nature-based tourism.

The State of Play: nature-based experiences research focuses on experiences including:

  • Up close animal encounters
  • Zoo, wildlife/bird parks, aquariums, sanctuaries and conservations
  • Flora and fauna events
  • Aurora exploration, stargazing/night sky photography
  • Road trips
  • Campgrounds
  • Exploring natural landmarks, wilderness/nature and wonders
