As the Southern Hemisphere’s leading multi-artform festival, Vivid Sydney aims to lead the way in sustainability.
Championing creativity, innovation and cutting-edge applications of technology doesn’t end with the program, but influences all elements of the festival including operations, environmental impact, marketing and more.
Destination NSW owns, manages and produces Vivid Sydney. It works collaboratively to embed sustainable practices across all levels of the festival and encourage positive behaviours and practices that resonate long after the lights are switched off.
Initiatives in the 2024–25 financial year
- Continued efforts to reduce single-use plastic by encouraging visitors to bring their own reusable water bottles.
- Expanding the use of green power, with 100 per cent of
light installations connected to renewable energy, up from 93 per cent the previous year. - Increased use of LED fixtures reduced energy consumption,
while accredited carbon offset credits were purchased to offset remaining emissions. - Reduced single-use plastics by removing plastic bags from Vivid Sydney sites where possible and replaced staff water dispensers with alternatives made from sustainable materials.
- Recycled corflute signage in collaboration with CleanVibes,
continuing efforts to phase out single-use and non-recyclable materials to minimise environmental impact.
