That’s the message from Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris and Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley who predicted tickets to this major sporting event would be snapped up quickly.
“The 2013 Australian Open will bring some of the world’s best golfers to the greens of Royal Sydney Golf Club and I encourage all golf fans to make the trip to Sydney,” Mr Souris said.
“The NSW Government’s, tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, worked in partnership with the event organiser, Golf Australia, to secure the best available talent for the Australian Open of Golf in Sydney.”
“This will be the only chance for Australian golf fans to see Adam Scott, who has just become the world’s number two golfer and Rory McIlroy, going head to head with some of the world’s best golfers – exclusively in Sydney.”
“By securing the Australian Open for Sydney until at least 2015, the NSW Government is committed to the long term vision of seeing this tournament become the premier event of its kind in the Asia Pacific region.”
The 2013 Emirates Australian Open is sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia.
Minister for Sport, Graham Annesley, said: “Following a record breaking winter of major sporting events in Sydney, the Australian Open of Golf tournament is another example of this Government’s commitment to bringing major sporting events and athletes to NSW.”“Sydney will once again play host to a world-class field of sportsmen and I’m sure all golfing fans will want to be witness a top golf tournament contested by some of the world’s top golfers.
“The NSW Events Calendar continues to feature the best of Australia’s leading sporting fixtures, with the NRL Grand Final, on Sunday 6 October, the Australian Boardriders Battle final at Cronulla Beach, January 2014, and the Opening Series of Major League Baseball to be held exclusively in Sydney in March 2014.”
