Sydney Airport is preparing for a busy spring school holiday period, with an estimated 2.67 million passengers expected to transit through its terminals between 21 September and 11 October 2026.

The busiest day for domestic travel over the peak period will be 2 October, with an estimated 94,000 passengers.

Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton said the September school holidays was one of the busiest times of the year.

“With higher passenger numbers expected throughout the holiday period, we encourage travellers to arrive early and plan ahead for a smooth journey,” he said.

Airlines add extra seats for Grand Final weekend

The NRL and NRLW Grand Finals will be held at Accor Stadium on 4 October, with more than 80,000 supporters expected in the precinct.

Qantas announced in early September that it had added more than 1000 extra seats across the Tasman to help bring New Zealanders to Sydney for the match.

Qantas Domestic CEO Markus Svensson said: “Footy fever has taken hold earlier this year than anyone can remember.

“Already we’ve seen thousands of fans book travel before their team has even made the final and we’ve added thousands of additional seats to our network.

“We have a number of additional aircraft and crews on standby giving us flexibility to add even more flights once each final game is locked in to help fans get behind their team.”
