NSW Tourism Association has welcomed the announcement that Fiji Airways will commence direct services between Western Sydney International Airport and Nadi from March 2027, saying the new route is another important step towards increasing aviation capacity and connectivity for NSW.

Fiji Airways will operate three services each week from Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport, becoming the latest international airline to commit to Sydney’s new 24-hour global gateway.

NSW Tourism Association CEO Natalie Godward said the announcement was great news for Western Sydney and the broader NSW visitor economy.

“We are very supportive of Western Sydney International and the additional aviation capacity, connectivity and choice it will bring to NSW,” Miss Godward said.

“Growing our visitor economy requires us to make it easier for people to get here. Every new service creates opportunity beyond the airport itself - for accommodation providers, attractions, tour operators, hospitality businesses and the thousands of people whose jobs are supported by the visitor economy.”

The new service will also provide greater choice and flexibility for travellers, with WSI CEO Simon Hickey highlighting the opportunity for Western Sydney’s large Fijian community to connect with family and friends, alongside existing demand between the two destinations. More than 400,000 passengers travelled between NSW and Fiji in 2025.

For the NSW visitor economy, the opportunity presented by WSI extends well beyond Western Sydney. Additional capacity creates new opportunities to attract visitors into Sydney and encourage them to travel further across NSW, supporting regional dispersal, visitor expenditure and jobs.

“Western Sydney International gives NSW an opportunity to grow the pie rather than just redistribute existing passengers. As more airlines and routes come online, we want to see that additional capacity translate into more visitors, greater regional dispersal, increased visitor expenditure and more jobs across NSW.” Miss Godward said.

NSW Tourism Association congratulates Western Sydney International and Fiji Airways on the announcement and looks forward to seeing the airport continue to build its international network.

Fiji Airways will operate three weekly services between Western Sydney and Nadi from Friday 19 March 2027, using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with capacity for up to 170 passengers.

Western Sydney International commenced cargo operations in July 2026, with passenger services commencing from 25 October 2026.
