Media release from Accommodation Australia NSW:
The standout achievers of the state’s multi-billion-dollar accommodation sector were honoured last night at the Accommodation Australia NSW Awards for Excellence.
Winners ranging from small family run regional motels to five-star CBD hotels received their awards at a gala function at The Fullerton Hotel Sydney in front of more than 750 guests, including NSW Deputy
Premier Prue Car and Shadow Tourism Minister, Kevin Anderson.
Accommodation Australia NSW General Manager Stacey McBride said this year’s awards broke all records with more than 383 nominations received across 41 different categories.
“These are hotels which lead the way in innovation, in staffing and in service and the task of narrowing down the finalists in each category was extremely difficult for our team of independent judges,” she
said.
“I congratulate all the winners for their commitment to our industry, their commitment to serving people and for their huge contribution to the NSW economy.”
“The winners were not just some of the state’s best hotels, but would rank amongst some of the premier venues in the world.”
Luxury Hotel of the Year, was won by Park Hyatt Sydney, Metropolitan Deluxe Hotel of the Year went to Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park and Regional Deluxe Hotel of the Year was Spicers Sangoma Retreat.
Best Budget Style Accommodation went to Berrima Bakehouse Motel, Best Apartment Style Accommodation was Meriton Suites Sussex Street, Best Boutique Accommodation Experience was awarded to Ovolo Woolloomooloo for the second year in a row and Best New or Redeveloped Venue was The Grace Hotel.
In the people awards, Jeroen Meijer from Parkroyal Darling Harbour took out Executive of the Year, while Chef of the Year was jointly awarded to Anthony Fullerton, from Circa 1876 and Jason Huynh from Shangri-La Sydney.
One of the highlights of the night was the induction of Greg Maguire from the Powerhouse Hotel Tamworth by Rydges into the Accommodation Australia NSW Hall of Fame.
