The NSW Government is backing local businesses and the local economy to help drive locals and visitors back to Bondi, one of the world’s best places to visit.

Whether it’s learning to surf, swimming at the famous Icebergs ocean pool, taking in the iconic Bondi to Coogee coastal walk, enjoying a meal with friends, grabbing a morning coffee at a neighbourhood café or exploring the vibrant local markets, Bondi offers unforgettable experiences at every turn.

The Back to Bondi initiative is rolling out across Destination NSW's digital and social channels and includes:

  • Sydney.com content takeover, highlighting Bondi to the 12.3 million website visitors who visit Sydney.com each year
  • Social media activity inviting VisitNSW.com and Sydney.com’s seven million followers to share their favourite Bondi moments with the world
  • Advice for tourism operators on business listings on Sydney.com and VisitNSW.com.

In a show of strength and resilience two months on, the NSW Government hosted a series of community sports activities on Bondi Beach on 14 February.

The day included a junior rugby league clinic with the Sydney Roosters and surf lifesaving demonstrations, highlighting the spirit and unity of the Bondi community.

The Sydney Roosters hosted their annual Junior Registration Day at Bondi, which saw new and returning players participate in skills sessions and fun, interactive games with the Roosters NRLW team.

The Bondi Community Hub has transitioned to a new format as recovery efforts move toward embedded, long term community supports and resources, placing local voices at the centre of ongoing assistance. Established in the immediate aftermath of the 14 December terror attack, the Hub provided critical care and connection, recording more than 1400 visits, supporting over 400 businesses and helping lodge more than 650 Victims Support applications.

This follows a funding package delivered in December 2025 to assist small businesses impacted by the Bondi terror attack and the recent announcement of more than $1 million in additional grant funding for Jewish organisations to support their community following the Bondi terror attack.

Premier of NSW Chris Minns said: “Our message to the Bondi community and businesses is that we are with you every step of the way on your road to recovery. “

More than 2.5 million domestic overnight and international visitors flock to Bondi each year to experience its iconic beach and laid-back lifestyle. From booking a surfing lesson to ordering a pizza at a local trattoria, Back to Bondi aims to shine a light on Australia’s favourite beachside suburb and the experiences that make it a global drawcard.

“We want the world to know that Bondi is back and ready to welcome them.”

Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper said: “The Minns Labor Government stands with Bondi residents, workers and business owners today and into the future.

“We’re inviting the world to experience the best of Bondi, whether it’s a yoga class by the sea, exploring Bondi’s world-class dining or being welcomed by friendly locals.

“Tourism operators, accommodation providers, retailers, restaurants and cafes play a central role in the suburb’s social cohesion and the growth of its visitor economy.

“Back to Bondi and today’s activities on Bondi Beach is showing the world that Bondi is back and ready to welcome them.

“I urge everyone to support these businesses to ensure they continue to be the lifeblood of the Bondi community.”

Minister for Recovery Janelle Saffin said: “Small businesses are an incredibly important part of Bondi reclaiming its identity as a vibrant iconic Australian landmark, and we will continue to support them anyway we can to bring people back to Bondi.

“To date more than 440 business owners have visited the Community Support Hub and about $900,000 has been paid to small businesses through the grants program.

“I’ve visited some of the businesses, and I can sense their pride, their determination and their resolve to return Bondi to the beautiful, bustling place it is. This campaign will help do that.”

Sydney Roosters Ambassador Luke Keary said: “Bondi really is the heart of our community. It’s a special place and it means a lot to so many people. We’re incredibly proud to represent this area on the field and, just as importantly, to give back whenever we can off it.

“It’s great to be down here supporting local businesses and our three community rugby league clubs as the junior league season kicks off. As a dad of three boys, I see first-hand how important grassroots sport is. It keeps kids active, brings families together and strengthens the whole community.

“I’d encourage everyone to get down to Bondi and show your support for the local community any way you can.”
