Since its inaugural year in 2009, the Central Coast Sevens has become one of the leading Rugby Sevens events in Australia, attracting teams from around the nation and the world.

This year’s event is taking place from 24-25 October at Wyong Leagues Club.

“The Central Coast Sevens has established itself as a highlight of the NSW Regional Events Calendar. I am pleased to announce the NSW Government is supporting this event for the next three years through our tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW,” Mr MacDonald said.

“This year’s tournament welcomes teams from the USA, Canada, Japan, Fiji and New Zealand. The high number of competitors and spectators travelling to the Sevens will provide a major boost for the Central Coast visitor economy, with more than 1,000 domestic and international visitors expected this year, bringing in an estimated $600,000 in visitor expenditure.”

This year’s Central Coast Sevens will feature both men’s and women’s tournaments, as well as a regional schoolboys tournament held the day prior to the official start of the event.

“With the Sydney Sevens taking place on 6-7 February 2016 and the sport appearing at the Olympics for the first time next year, Rugby Sevens is booming around the world,” Mr MacDonald said

“The Sevens will also showcase the Central Coast region, with its fantastic range of beaches, restaurants and attractions providing something for visitors of all ages and tastes. I would like to thank all the sponsors, including the University of Newcastle, who have announced that they have naming rights for this year’s tournament. Congratulations to Craig Morgan, Ian Robilliard and their team for pulling together this fantastic event.”
