In a state known for its iconic coastlines, vibrant festivals and celebrated regional escapes, a quiet revolution is underway in how we welcome visitors of all abilities.
Accessible tourism – once seen as a niche – is now a vital part of a more inclusive and forward-thinking visitor economy. And the 2025 NSW Tourism Awards are calling for nominations from tourism operators who are leading the charge.
With entries now open in the Excellence in Accessible Tourism category, the Awards aim to recognise those delivering exceptional service, experiences and environments for people of all abilities – whether through thoughtful design, inclusive programming, or customer service that puts people first.
From attractions and festivals to food, wine and accommodation and more, this category is open to any tourism business making accessibility a priority. That includes efforts to support people with mobility, vision or hearing impairments, neurodivergence, sensory sensitivities, dietary requirements, cognitive conditions, and other needs.
NSW Tourism Association CEO Natalie Godward said: “Tourism is about connection, discovery and joy – and everyone should be able to take part in that.
“This award is about celebrating those operators who are leading by example, breaking down barriers and creating experiences that are inclusive, welcoming and memorable.”
Last year’s winner, Balloon Aloft, was awarded Gold at both the NSW and Australian Tourism Awards for reimagining the hot air balloon experience, from safety briefings to boarding and ground support, making the magic of flight more accessible to all.
The NSW Tourism Awards recognise outstanding achievement across all sectors of the state’s visitor economy and serve as a gateway to national recognition.
Winners in the Excellence in Accessible Tourism category will go on to represent NSW at the 2025 Australian Tourism Awards, which this year marks its 40th anniversary as the country’s most prestigious celebration of tourism excellence.
The 2025 NSW Tourism Awards will culminate in a gala evening at Waterview in Bicentennial Park, Sydney Olympic Park, on 27 November 2025 – a celebration of the people, places and ideas shaping the future of tourism in NSW.
Nominating takes just five minutes, and businesses have access to extensive support throughout the submission process – including access to the Entrant Support Program webinars, an online resource hub, entry tips, draft reviews and personalised guidance – all included in the entry fee.
Nominations close Friday 27 June 2025. Learn more or nominate here.
