New South Wales Premier Mike Baird was joined by Australian Sevens players Tom Cusack and Con Foley for today’s announcement in Auckland during his first official visit as Premier to New Zealand.
“The atmosphere of Sevens World Series events in other host cities around the world has been electric and we want to ensure Sydney is no different,” Mr Baird said.
“We share a friendly sporting rivalry with our Kiwi friends and I’d encourage all New Zealanders to make sure they’ll be in Sydney to cheer on their team.”
The travel packages will go on sale on Wednesday 19 August and will include tickets, accommodation and airfares to Sydney flying Qantas.
New Zealand is the second largest source of international tourists to NSW, with almost 400,000 visitors arriving in the year ending March 2015, making a contribution of $473 million to the local visitor economy.
Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase encouraged visitors to the Sydney Sevens to take some time to experience everything the State has to offer over the summer months.
“Summer is a fantastic time to be in NSW, and visitors to the Sydney Sevens should look to extend their stay and take in our wide array of events, activities and attractions. From our beautiful coastline to our breathtaking regional areas there is something for everyone in NSW,” Ms Chipchase said.
The inaugural Sydney Sevens will take place on 6-7 February 2016 at Allianz Stadium as part of the HSBC Sevens World Series.
The travel packages are available for purchase through Flight Centre, House of Travel, GO Holidays, Experience Group and Williment Travel.
