“If you are a sports fan, then NSW is the place to be this winter,” Mr Stoner said.
“This month alone we will welcome Italian football giants Juventus, exclusively to Sydney, for their friendly clash with the Foxtel A-League All Stars, the Waratahs will fight for the Super 15 title tomorrow night, and the Wallabies will challenge the All Blacks for a trophy that has eluded them for 11 years – the Bledisloe Cup.
“The NSW Government continues to secure world class sporting events in this state, which reinforces Sydney’s position as Australia’s premier home of major sporting events, drives visitation and helps grow the NSW economy.
“The recent State of Origin clash in Sydney attracted more than 80,000 fans to ANZ Stadium. It’s a fantastic example of the NSW Government working successfully with event organisers to attract big visitor numbers to a major sporting event,” he said.
“In Regional NSW, Coffs Harbour is gearing up to host 400 surfers during the Australian Surf Festival and the Wallabies will take the Bledisloe Cup on a unique five-day rural road trip through Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst and Penrith as part of the Bush2Bledisloe campaign in the lead up to their match in Sydney.
“High-octane action features later in the month with a brand new addition to the V8 Supercar calendar, the Sydney Motorsport 400, with two 100km races and a 200km race across one weekend.
“On top of this, in the past year we have attracted some of the sporting world’s biggest names including Manchester United and the Major League Baseball Open Series, and international golfing champion, Rory McIlroy to name just a few.
“The sporting fans visiting NSW for these major events stay in our hotels, eat in restaurants, visit our attractions and purchase at our retail outlets. They provide a terrific boost for our economy as well as a treat for fans,” he said.
