The announcement to extend the sponsorship deal comes a day before Sydney FC is due to fly to Italy for a pre-season tour.
“Sydney FC’s recent trip to Japan and their forthcoming tour of Italy provides a fantastic opportunity to promote Sydney and NSW into some of Destination NSW’s key tourism markets,” Mr Souris said.
“There will be great interest in Italy for one of Sydney FC’s key players, Alessandro Del Piero, in his home country, providing the Sydney.com brand and website with even greater exposure to an instant global audience.”
“Sydney FC has great reach with sports fans with more than 63,000 Facebook likes, and more than 28,000 Twitter followers and last season experienced record crowd attendance.”
“Under the sponsorship arrangement, the Sydney.com logo will continue to appear on the back of all Sydney FC home and away playing and training jerseys, as well as on official Sydney FC team merchandise shirts throughout the 2013-14 Hyundai A-League season.”
Minister for Sport, Graham Annesley, said the sporting world is looking at Sydney and NSW after two big months of sport in our state.
“The Government recently announced a record-breaking winter of major events in our state, with a substantial economic boost for NSW businesses,” Mr Annesley said.
“By hosting Manchester United last month for their clash against the A-League All Stars, as well as the Socceroo’s World Cup qualifying match vs Iraq at ANZ Stadium, the profile of football in NSW continues to grow, and it is fantastic to see Destination NSW extend its sponsorship deal with Sydney FC.”
