Qantas and Virgin Australia have scooped a swag of awards at the 2025 Skytrax World Airline Awards.

Known as the 'Oscars of the aviation industry' the World Airline Awards were launched in 1999, with the winners determined by online surveys filled out by more than 22 million customers.

Qatar Airways was named the World’s Best Airline for 2025, the ninth time it has won the top accolade in the awards’ 26-year history.

Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted said: “Qatar Airways achieved excellent results across many award categories, with their Business Class winning the World’s Best Business Class and their Al Mourjan Garden Lounge named the World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge.

"We congratulate Qatar Airways on these successes which should be a source of great pride and satisfaction for the airline management and staff.”

Qatar Airways acquired a 25 per cent stake in Virgin Australia this year and officially launching its first long-haul international service from Sydney to Doha on 12 June.

The daily service offers access to Sydney Airport from more than 170 destinations via Doha, through Qatar Airways’ global network.

Virgin Australia won the Best Airline Staff in the Australia-Pacific in the 2025 World Airline Awards and came second in the World’s Best Regional Airline category behind Bangkok Airways.

Qantas moved up the rankings to 14th position, after falling to 24th last year. The airline was named the Best Airline in the Australia-Pacific and made the global top 10 for Best Premium Economy Cabin and Best In-Flight Entertainment.
