The announcement was made today on Manly Beach by NSW Premier and Member for Manly Mike Baird who congratulated Tyler on her incredible season, with the NSW local taking out the world title last week for the first time in her career.

“Tyler is a superstar of world surfing and I’m thrilled she will be competing at the Australian Open of Surfing at Manly Beach next year,” Mr Baird said.

“She captivated the nation in winning the world title, and we can’t wait to see her at the Australian Open in front of a large crowd of local and visiting fans.

“It’s a great event for Manly, the birthplace of Australian surfing, providing a wonderful boost to the local visitor economy every year. I encourage everyone to get to Manly and see the skills that have made Tyler a World Champion,” he said.

The 2017 event will run from 25 February – 5 March and features a line-up of some of the world’s best surfers, as well as top class skateboarding, music and art.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said the AOS, first held in 2012, will attract crowds of locals and visitors to Manly.

“The AOS has been secured for Manly by the NSW Government, through our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW,” Mr Ayres said.

“It’s two weeks of non-stop action on Manly Beach, with something on offer for all ages, and showcases everything that is great about Manly, from the amazing beach to world class restaurants, hotels and attractions,” Mr Ayres said.

“It’s one of the biggest and best events of the summer, and is the perfect occasion to visit NSW and take some time to explore Manly.”
