Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Mitski will perform in an Australian exclusive at Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House this May as part of Vivid Sydney, Australia’s biggest event that fuses art and innovation with some of the most boundary-pushing artists, musicians, thinkers and culinary experts of our time.
As the first artist announced for Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House, the cult generational talent will play the Concert Hall stage for four nights with her full band, performing songs from her eighth studio album, Nothing's About to Happen to Me – out February 27 – alongside highlights from her beloved back catalogue. Known for her intimate sound, gut-wrenching lyricism and visceral theatricality – described as “a mesmerising study in movement” (Variety) and “highly stylised, brilliantly realised, super cool” (Philadelphia Inquirer) – Mitski’s Vivid LIVE performances mark her Sydney Opera House debut and her first Australian shows since 2019.
Mitski is "the most alluring and enigmatic musician in indie rock" (Rolling Stone), celebrated for continually reinventing her sound. Across seven albums, she has built a global following, with My Love Mine All Mine becoming a four-times platinum international hit. Mitski’s varied collaborations include two co-writes on Florence and the Machine’s latest album, Everybody Scream, as well as work with David Byrne and Son Lux on the Oscar-nominated This Is A Life. She is currently writing the music and lyrics for the musical adaptation of The Queen’s Gambit.
The full program for Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House, including cult favourites, local trailblazers, influential culture-shapers, Studio Parties and the spectacular Lighting of the Sails, will be announced soon.
Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music and Vivid LIVE Curator Ben Marshall said: "There are artists who have successful careers, and there are artists who profoundly change people’s lives – the utterly brilliant Mitski does both. Years in the making, it’s a dream come true to welcome this internationally revered, generation-defining artist to Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House for four Australian exclusive performances.
"In the seven long years since her last visit to our shores, Mitski has emerged as an uncompromising artist of extraordinary calibre, creating performances for huge audiences that are at once fiercely emotional and breathtakingly theatrical. Her choice to perform here – in a building devoted to the transformative power of art – is a true privilege.
"This year, Vivid LIVE will once again gather the world’s greatest musical talents alongside Australia’s vibrant music communities in an open-to-all celebration at the heart of our city. Experiencing this incredible range of international and local voices inside a living work of art is what makes Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House unique. Mitski’s Sydney Opera House debut promises to be unmissable, and we cannot wait to share the full program with you soon."
NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper said: “Vivid Sydney 2026 is raising the bar once again, and the exclusive residency of internationally acclaimed artist Mitski, a hero highlight of the Vivid Music program as part of Vivid LIVE showcases world-class entertainment that makes this event truly stand out.
“Securing four nights at the iconic Sydney Opera House will be a standout moment of the festival, offering an experience you won’t find anywhere else in Australia. It gives music fans the perfect reason to visit our Harbour City and dive into everything Vivid Sydney brings to life.”
