The Banksia Foundation, in partnership with the NSW Government, through the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment & Water, has announced the winners of the 2025 NSW Sustainability Awards.

Now in their fourth year, the Awards recognise individuals, organisations and communities that are advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and helping build a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient NSW.

The NSW Sustainable Tourism Award was won by Region X. Region X’s Clyde River Oyster Tasting Kayak Tour is a pioneering collaboration between eco-tourism and aquaculture.

Guests paddle accessible routes on the pristine Clyde River before visiting The Oyster Shed, where fifth-generation farmer Jade Norris shares the story of oyster cultivation, estuary ecology, and cultural heritage. Freshly opened oysters are tasted on the water, with shells returned to the river in a waste-free cycle.

In the past three years, more than 3000 visitors have joined the tour, generating vital alternative income for farmers, strengthening Eurobodalla’s $16 million oyster industry and raising awareness of oysters as ecological keystones filtering five litres of water per hour.

Among the finalists for the NSW Sustainable Tourism Award was City of Sydney's Sustainable Destination Partnership (SDP).

Destination NSW is a proud Associate Member of SDP, a collaboration of hotels, backpacker hostels, serviced apartments, cultural institutions, entertainment venues and industry leaders that work together to improve the environmental performance of Sydney’s accommodation and entertainment sector.
