The Global Wellness Institute has released new research ahead of Global Wellness Day 2026 that reveals Australia is now the world’s fifth largest wellness tourism market.
The data reflects growing demand for travel that supports mental, physical and emotional wellbeing.
The NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2035 identifies wellness tourism as a key strength for the state. NSW offers diverse landscapes, deep cultural connections and sustainable experiences that promote relaxation, renewal and reconnection with nature.
By fostering strategic partnerships, sustainable investment and innovative experiences, NSW is cementing its reputation as a premier wellness destination, driving both regional and metropolitan visitor economy growth.
Global Wellness Day is great opportunity to get involved in wellness tourism. Celebrated in more than 170 countries, the not-for-profit global movement encourages healthier, more connected living.
NSW will celebrate Global Wellness Day 2026 on 13 June 2026, commencing with Well Traveller’s Rituals of Joy at Bennelong Lawn in the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney from 10am.
Global Wellness Day 2026 experiences will also be offered across Greater Sydney and regional NSW.

State of play: luxury and wellness tourism
Destination NSW has released new research that offers valuable insights into the experiences that are influencing tourism demand.
Conducted in partnership with FiftyFive5, the research explores the Australian domestic tourism landscape, including the level of interest and motivation for different travel experiences, including wellness tourism.
The research has been designed to support the NSW tourism industry to make decisions about where demand exists and practical ways to partner with industry providers.
